4 Ways to Get Rid of Ugly Stretch Marks
Stretch marks have had most women and some men fretting for a very long time now. Not surprising considering the following stats: 90% of pregnant women have stretch marks after delivery; people building muscles or losing weight also tend to develop them. Even teenagers in puberty are prone to stretch marks due to sudden body growth. Many of us wear concealing clothes in a bid to hide these ugly scars on our thighs, buttocks or stomach area.
Stretch marks though are not of permanent nature and fade away over a period of time. But if you are determined to take care of it before it fades away there are several effective ways in which to accomplish that.
1. Dermabrasion – This is a cosmetic procedure in which the skins layers are removed allowing the skin to regenerate. The skin regenerated is usually pink, however, this changes into normal skin color in a short time. The healing time is approximately 7 to 10 days, after which you can start using your regular cosmetic products.
The drawback of this procedure is that there may be side effects like temporary or permanent changes in a skin tone different from your own. Also, this procedure is extremely painful and would require some general anesthetic to be administered.
2. Stretch mark creams – Removing stretch marks with a stretch mark removal cream can be very effective IF you choose the right type of cream. It is advisable that you use a high quality stretch mark removal cream to make it really work for you. A good cream will smoothen the skin out first and then gradually bring the skin back together to fade the stretch marks.
This method is extremely convenient and cost effective. Many people have been successful in getting rid of their stretch marks with consistent use of creams and lotions. The drawback is that not all creams and lotions are effective.
However, this can be overcome by visiting your dermatologist and asking them to recommend something that will really work for you and also suit your skin type.
3. Laser Surgery – Of all the methods this is the quickest and most successful way of getting rid of your stretch marks. There is no pain involved and it takes about 10 to 60 minutes for the entire procedure. In addition, this is also the most effective way of getting rid of old deep stretch marks which creams and lotions fail to remove.
Like all other procedures this also has its disadvantage. With laser surgery it is the cost of the procedure. Expect to spend about $700 to $5000 for the entire procedure.
4. Chemical Peel – This treatment works by gradually peeling off your skin using a chemical solution. The skin then regenerates itself and the new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled. These solutions are very effective but must be used under medical observation, to avoid unpleasant side effects which include permanent change in skin color, risk of scarring and reactivation of cold sores with people suffering from herpes.
Depending on how much you are willing to spend and how desperately you want to get rid of the stretch marks you can choose a suitable procedure to make enhance the appearance of your skin.
Don't wait for stretch marks to appear! As pregnancy progresses abdominal skin can often feel overly sensitive and tight, and this sensitivity does not always disappear afterwards. Stretch marks do not disappear either when left untreated.
