Stretch marks don’t affect just pregnant women, they commonly affect teenagers, too. Growth spurts, increasing hormone levels and genetics all have a hand in whether or not a teen develops stretch marks. Rapid weight gain or loss, obesity and weight lifting can also bring on stretch marks.Help your teen minimize stretch marks

Stretch marks are not easy to get rid of. Depending on the color of your skin, they may start out red, pink, purple or brown, and that’s the best time to treat them. By the time they become white or silver, they’re even more difficult to get rid of. And while there are countless promised remedies out there, only a few actually work:

Glycolic acid May work on stretch marks by increasing collagen production. Requires several high-dosage treatments administered by a dermatologist. Is more effective when used in conjunction with other remedies.

Vitamin CSome vitamin C formulations may be effective in treating early-stage stretchmarks. Combining them with glycolic acid may improve the results. Vitamin C supplements may also prove effective.

Retinoids Containing vitamin A, these products do seem to increase collagen production during early stages. Again, using glycolic acids with the retenoids is more effective than using either product alone.

Laser treatments These treatments promote healthy, new collagen and are offered by dermatologists to treat even advanced stretch marks. This expensive option requires multiple treatments.

Stretch marks are permanent, but they can be treated and minimized. No matter what method you decide to you, there will always be some evidence that the stretch marks are there.
