Cellulite is a dimpling of the skin, caused by fat trapped below the dermis.

Between 85% and 98% of women suffer from cellulite and it is nothing to do with being overweight – both skinny and larger ladies can get it.

In medical tests, cellulite is indistinguishable from ordinary fat but visually it looks lumpy.

Cellulite can appear on the buttocks, thighs, belly, neck and breasts.

There is no miracle cure to eradicate cellulite and people try everything from drugs to shock therapy. Even liposuction will not remove cellulite completely.

There are lotions and creams on the market for cellulite but these tend to smooth the skin temporarily and do not rid you of the problem. The best thing to do if you are concerned about cellulite is to use natural products and remedies.

The following tips will help you:

1. Poor circulation can cause cellulite to stay where it is.
Exercise is healthy for the whole body, not just beneficial for areas prone to cellulite. Cycling can get the blood in your legs moving. Jogging, fast walking, swimming or tennis are also good. Yoga increases your strength and improves circulation. In fact, any exercise is better than none and if you can only manage a walk to the shop and back, that is better than nothing.

2. Make sure your diet is adequate.
What you put into your body greatly affects what it looks like on the outside. Drink at least two litres of water every day, more if you exercise or live somewhere hot. Avoid fried food, especially deep-fried, butter and fats. Vitamin C has been proven to reduce cellulite so make sure you drink orange juice or take supplements. Kiwi fruit is a great source of Vitamin C. Try to avoid salt and artificial additives. Eat plenty of fiber and fresh fruit and vegetables.

3. Body brushing can help to shift cellulite.
You should dry brush your body, especially cellulite-prone areas, five minutes before you bathe or take a shower. Take long strokes and use a natural bristle brush. Body brushing boosts blood flow and gets the fluid moving.

4. Get a massage.
A massage to stimulate lymph circulation can be very beneficial if you suffer from cellulite. Massage varies in price from $50 to around $150, depending where you go and what type of massage you are having. A good massage is about an hour long. You can ask the masseuse to concentrate on your problem areas.

It doesn't have to be complicated or painful!
