Methods Of Stretch Mark Removal
There are many different methods of stretch mark removal. Some are permanent solutions while others work for as long as you keep using them. Each persons body and skin is different and respond to treatments in varied ways. How your skin responds can depend on how deep the marks are and how long you have had them. The new marks are much easier to remove than the older ones. Sometimes the best you can hope for is to lighten them depending on the method.
The dermatological term for stretch marks is Striae. They occur when the middle layer of skin is stretched past its elastic ability. At that point the skin literally tears. These tears are dark at first but as they heal become lighter. They are usually lighter than you normal skin color. Stretch marks can occur is several different areas of the body. The main areas are the abdomen, back, hips, thighs, and buttocks. They can also show up on breasts or pectoral muscles, arms, and shoulders
Pregnant women are not the only ones who get them and not all do. It is quite common for teenagers as well. This is usually due to growth spurts. This could be them gaining four inches in height over a summer or developing in other ways. Men can also get them. Anytime there is rapid weight gain or loss, quick increase in muscle mass or hormonal changes the marks may occur.
There are any number of treatments that can be found in drug stores and department stores. There are also a large number of home remedies that you can try. These are the least expensive and invasive treatments available. The creams and oils are rubbed on the affected areas and are said to remove the scars. Most of them promise to fade them not permanently remove them.
The key is to exfoliate the skin first. Then apply the cream or oil to the areas or all over. It should be done 3 to 4 times a day. If not, at least in the morning and before bed. You will need to choose wisely because some of the home remedies will stain your clothing. When purchasing a treatment look for ones that try to replace the collagen in your skin. This is what makes skin elastic. The ingredients that are most common for stretch marks are cocoa butter, olive oil, vitamin E, aloe vera and shea butter. These are sometimes recommended individually or in combination.
A common treatment you would receive from you dermatologist is dermabrasion. This is where your skin is literally sanded removing the outer layers of skin. This doesn't really affect the stretch marks themselves but the skin next to it will look closer to the same skin of the marks. It makes them less noticeable. There also chemical peels. With these a thin layer of acid is applied to the skin. This acid affects the deeper layers and breaks them down. The skin then heals itself by producing collagen and renewing skin cells. A new layer of skin then grows.
Laser treatment is an option. It is called resurfacing. A laser causes the skin surrounding the marks to break down. It then heals with new layers of skin. This causes the marks to appear faded but not removed. Radio frequency treatments are being used with laser treatment for more effective results. These treatments have to be repeated multiple times and again typically improve the appearance of but do not remove the scars.
All of the treatments above have the most success when the marks are new. The one permanent solution for stretch mark removal is part of a plastic surgery procedure. That would be the tummy tuck. The skin below the navel is removed. Of course this solely affects the abdominal area. This is the most expensive method and it isn't usually done just to remove stretch marks. Alternatively, there is also Revitol Stretch Mark Cream. Explore your different options and find what works best for you.
