Severe Stretch Marks
Is it possible to completely rid yourself of stretch marks? The best practice is not to get them to begin with, but most people have them. There are two main reasons that people develop stretch marks, physical reason, like pregnancy and rapid weight gain and genetics. When the skin is stretched quickly and cannot rebound it causes stretch marks, once this happens the skin will not return to its original tautness.
Stretch marks are really scars that go deep down into to second layer of skin; this scar tissue appears as stripes on the surface of the skin. You will find them mostly in certain areas like the belly, legs, rear, and chest, but may appear nearly anywhere. When the skin is stretched is actually tears in the most stressed areas. Once the skin tears it cannot be put back together but the marks can be lightened drastically, there are many products available to fade severe stretch marks.
How well these products work depends on how big the stretch mark is, where it is and how well hydrated your skin is. Exfoliation helps by removing the top few layers of skin allowing fresh new skin replace it; use a good moisturizer to keep you skin hydrated and drink plenty of water.
There are many different creams and lotions that will help fade marks, look for lotions high in Vitamin E. A lot of them work really well but only work for new scars, look for one that works for older scars, also microdermabrasion works for old scars as well. This will work on really bad marks that are older than a year.
Laser treatments also work very well for older stretch marks. Laser can be a bit pricy, and can irritate sensitive skin. Again they do not repair the scar tissue but they do lighten it for a dramatic difference.
There is no miracle cream that will rebuild the scar tissue, but you can fade them to the point where you cannot see them anymore. Another option is surgery, which can be very painful. For surgery they actually cut the scar tissue out like a giant tummy tuck. This will effectively get rid of severe stretch marks but is expensive, painful and will not be covered by your insurance company.
Even though you cannot remove them completely you can repair them. You can lighten them dramatically with a good stretch mark cream, don't for get to moisturize and drink lots of water.
