Stretch marks on the arms are almost a rite of passage for some bodybuilders. Far from being embarrassed by them, these red-to-purple-to-silver streaks are a banner stating “I am buff,” and are seen as a common–and sometimes happy–side effect of building bulk fast. But if you don't want to promote these scars on your body, or if you've gained them from some other unsavory act, such as rapidly gaining too much weight, there are a few ways to prevent and stop stretch marks on your arms.

Step 1

Avoid bulking up or gaining weight too quickly on your arms. According to the National Institutes of Health, avoiding rapid weight gain, whether it be through fat or muscle gain, will reduce the likelihood of stretch marks.

Step 2

Eat a well-balanced diet. By providing your body with the proper vitamins, such as leafy greens and whole grains, you will develop healthy skin, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Step 3

Get regular, consistent exercise that will keep your body building lean muscle.

Step 4

Don't smoke. If you do smoke, get on a managed routine to stop. Oxygen and vital nutrients such as vitamin A are depleted by smoking. Additionally, collagen and elastin, which keeps skin strong and elastic, is damaged by smoking. The less elastic your skin, the more prone you are to stretch marks.

Step 5

Drink at least 64 oz. of water a day to keep your skin hydrated, to help it remain elastic and resist stretch marks.

Step 6

Take a multivitamin to ensure healthy and elastic skin. Choose a multivitamin that includes vitamins E and A.
