postheadericon The correction of striae distensae

The safety and efficacy of fractional photothermolysis for the correction of striae distensae Journal of Drugs in Dermatology, Sept, 2008 by Mira Stotland, Anne M. Chapas, Lori Brightman, Sean Sukal, Elizabeth Hale, Julie Karen, Leonard Bernstein, Roy G. Geronemus

ABSTRACT

Background: Improving the appearance of striae distensae, particularly striae alba, has remained a challenge due to the limited availability of effective and low-risk treatment options. Fractional photothermolysis, a novel concept in skin rejuvenation, has been reported to be effective in the treatment of facial rhytides, acne scars, and surgical scars, but its use in the treatment of striae has not been well studied.

postheadericon Microdermabrasion vs Chemical Peels

Chemical Peels Versus Micro Dermabrasion

I've had a chemical peel (a glycolic peel) three months after my first facial microdermabarasion treatment (after I'd gained some experience with skin rejuvenation). In some ways, peels and microderm abrasions are similar, which is why so many people refer to microderm as a microdermabrasion peel. Microdermabrasion is by nature, a mechanical peel. It uses a stream of crystals (or a diamond tip wand) and suction to gently exfoliate the skin, while chemical peels achieve the same effect using milder or stronger acid solutions. But a peel and microderm don't mix and match.

Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peeling Comparison

This is important: chemical peeling and micro dermabrasion are both resurfacing procedures that exfoliate the skin. Used together, they can cause serious damage to the skin because of the double peeling effect.

postheadericon Clear Up Acne Scarring

Overview

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, acne scarring can be caused by two types of tissue response—increased tissue formation or loss of tissue. You can choose to try to improve the appearance of scars with specialty products or opt for a skin-rejuvenation program. For a more serious condition, a dermatologist may be able to administer treatment to clear up acne scarring.

Step 1

Purchase a topical scar treatment product to improve the appearance of scars. If scars are minimal, some topical treatments can help smooth depressed acne scars. You can purchase products that stimulate collagen formation, as well. These help fill in slight depressions in the skin, though the result is not permanent. You can also ask your dermatologist about using topical retinoid creams which also have a smoothing effect on the skin.

postheadericon Home Remedies For Acne Scars

Acne is a skin disorder that occurs due to excess production of oil in the glands and hormonal changes. Acne usually leaves behind scars on the skin which cannot be removed that easily. Mild acne scars can heal without any treatment. They can be effectively treated with home remedies. Whereas scars that are deep remain for the entire life and it is always better to consult a dermatologist for deep scars. Home remedies must be constantly applied on the scars for it to disappear over a period of time.

postheadericon Bio-Oil for fading scars [Archive]

“Bio-Oil” is a product that's being marketed as some kind of miracle oil for fading scars (and makes bold claims about reducing the appearance of stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing skin and dehydrated skin). I bought a 60mL bottle from Priceline, as it is currently being sold at a discount price. The good thing about Bio-Oil is that its (active) constituents are natural essential oils & vitamins – Lavender, Calendula and Rosemary Oil – as well as Vitamins A and E, together with a dry oil called “PurCellin Oil”, and chamomile extract to help soothe the skin. This is a great oil for treating acne scars. It seems to create a rosy appearance.

A 4-week user-trial to test the effectiveness of Bio-Oil for scars was conducted in the United Kingdom by Ayton-Moon Consultancy. Scar ages ranged from a few months to 10 years, with improvements being recorded throughout. Each of the 3 scar types (raised, flat and depressed) responded equally favourably to Bio-Oil.

postheadericon Acne Scar Reduction Methods

Moderate to severe forms of acne are usually the ones that lead to scarring. When a skin infection leads to inflamed skin and if cysts and nodules develop and break, bleeding usually occurs. Often, if the infection is deep enough, it might also lead to tissue damage. The result: acne scars.

How acne scars form

In a case of acne, the infection can spread from underneath the skin's surface and affect elastin and collagen fibers, effectively killing or damaging skin cells and tissues. When the body begins to heal itself, it tries to patch up the broken and damaged tissues. The skin, a functional tissue, is replaced with a scar, a connective tissue. This explains in part why it's usually easy to tell a scar from the rest of the skin.

postheadericon Acne Treatment Coverup…..Makeup For Acne and Acne Scars

ACNE TREATMENT COVERUP
Can makeup make acne worse

Acne treatment coverup and makeup for acne scars are very important issues. Using the wrong acne coverup can worsen the problem. The key is to pick products that won't aggravate existing dermatologic conditions.

The most common makeup challenge is dealing with acne, and acne treatment coverup. “Acne cosmetica,” or acne caused or aggravated by cosmetics, is frequently seen in women in their 20s and 30s, many of whom report not having had acne as a teenager. Acne patients want to camouflage active pimples and old acne scars, but some cover-ups can produce more pimples, leading to a cycle of then having more to coverup. It's best to look for products that are marked as safe for skin with acne.

postheadericon Do Acne Scar Removal Creams work?

Acne scar removal cream, whether doctor prescribed or over the counter, is a common choice for mild to moderate scars. It works by exfoliating the scarred area so that new skin can grow and replace it. One thing to take note of is that not all products are compatible with certain parts of the skin. Some creams are only used for the face or other parts of the skin like the neck or body so be certain about the acne scar removal cream you want to use.

Additionally, not all products make use of the same material components. It is important to know what ingredients are included in the cream you want so as to prevent allergies. If uncertain of this, rub a small portion on your skin and see if there are any side effects or better yet, consult a dermatologist.
