The truth about stretch marks: here's your guide to banishing the marks of physiques past Muscle & Fitness/Hers, July, 2003 by Deborah Meier Brown

Okay, so maybe the problem doesn't rank up there with world hunger, air pollution, global unrest or even paying your rent on time, but stretch marks–those unattractive reddish streaks that show up when your body changes too quickly–can be an unsightly nuisance. When you're committed to eating right and maximizing your workouts to look and feel your best, it's kind of a drag to develop these hard-to-get-rid-of lines (basically, scars that result from overtaxing your skin's elasticity) just as you're really starting to make some progress.

postheadericon Bio-Oil for fading scars [Archive]

“Bio-Oil” is a product that's being marketed as some kind of miracle oil for fading scars (and makes bold claims about reducing the appearance of stretch marks, uneven skin tone, ageing skin and dehydrated skin). I bought a 60mL bottle from Priceline, as it is currently being sold at a discount price. The good thing about Bio-Oil is that its (active) constituents are natural essential oils & vitamins – Lavender, Calendula and Rosemary Oil – as well as Vitamins A and E, together with a dry oil called “PurCellin Oil”, and chamomile extract to help soothe the skin. This is a great oil for treating acne scars. It seems to create a rosy appearance.

A 4-week user-trial to test the effectiveness of Bio-Oil for scars was conducted in the United Kingdom by Ayton-Moon Consultancy. Scar ages ranged from a few months to 10 years, with improvements being recorded throughout. Each of the 3 scar types (raised, flat and depressed) responded equally favourably to Bio-Oil.
