postheadericon Types of Stretch Marks

Stretch marks are caused by sudden spreading out of skin. It happens when the skin loses its elasticity due to sudden reduction in the level of collagen in the skin. Collagen is present in the second layer of the skin and is responsible for keeping it tight.

This mark is most common in case of pregnant women when they experience a sudden increase in weight. These marks start appearing from the seventh month of pregnancy especially in those areas where the growths are maximum, and are thus common in abdominal area and breasts in pregnant women.

Developing stretch marks is common phenomenon during the adolescence period when there is a sudden growth in the body. They tend to appear in red and purple colors where maximum amount of fat is stored in the body during this period. The areas which are prone to such marks are back, upper arm, breasts, hips and thighs.

Athletes and boxers who do a lot of exercise are also prone to stretch marks. This shows that they can also grow due to overgrowth of the muscles. In the case of athletes and boxers, they can grow in those areas where maximum expansions of muscle take place. These areas are generally biceps and calf muscles.

Sometimes, use of steroid can also lead to formation of them. Though many natural therapy and cream are available in the market for treatment of stretch marks, none works effectively to wipe out those marks completely. It only helps to partly fade away those marks.
