White Stretch Marks
In general, there are variations in the colors of stretch marks. While the most common colors would be red and purple, there are also white variations of these marks. These white marks are actually the old red and purple marks. These would develop because the tissues underneath the skin have been torn due to overstretching. The marks are more common in women who have been pregnant because they have increased in size in a rapid manner. It can also be due to the sudden changes in hormones.
When the skin is stretching, it can forms gaps. Collagen starts to fill in these gaps in order to prevent it from breaking down completely. The collagen is the main protein that protects the skin from breaking down by linking the skin tissues. At first, the lines or marks are red or purple in appearance but as time passes, these marks will start to fade in a silvery to white appearance.
In simple terms, these white stretch marks are tears in the skin that has undergone the stage of regeneration. If the marks are already white, it means that the skin is regenerating while the red and purplish colors mean that the marks are still fresh or new. When the marks are already white or silver in appearance, there is no method to resolve the problem. A mark or a scar can't be completely eliminated but its appearance can be improved.
There are methods on how to drastically improve the overall appearance of the marks but it can't be eliminated. Some of the treatment options for these marks would include laser treatment and microdermabrasion. Just like treating scars, you can't be entirely sure that the appearance of the marks will be hundred percent improved. However, these two treatments are the best options available as they can make major enhancements in the overall appearance of the marks.
The laser treatment is noninvasive and no surgeries are required. It is safe for any skin type and it works by stimulating the production of melanin, which gives the skin its natural color. The melanin is a type of protein that is produced in the epidermis layer of the skin. Since melanin can give the color to the skin, it can help in darkening the white stretch marks to match with the natural skin tone.
This procedure can be done without causing interruptions with the normal activities. Actually, the procedure can happen very quickly in a span of two hours. However, there is a side effect to this procedure. Since it stimulates the production of melanin, it can make your skin look darker like you've been to a tanning salon. However, since the marks are often in areas that are hidden, it won't be too much of an issue.
On the other hand, the microdermabrasion is considered to be the standard treatment for reducing the marks on the skin. However, the result of this procedure is not as good as the laser treatment. Aside from that, this treatment is also a little expensive for results that are just average. It can make some slight changes to the appearance of the scars or marks but some will still be obvious.
